3 Tips To Help You Dress Around Your Concealed Carry Weapon

Alexa Brooks

Carrying a handgun at all times allows many people to feel that they are in control of their personal safety. A concealed carry course can teach you to properly use your weapon, but it is up to you to determine how you will incorporate your gun into your everyday life.

If you are planning to carry your gun with you at all times, you will need to learn how to dress around your weapon. This is a bit more challenging than it might seem. You need to be able to strike the right balance between concealment and accessibility.

1. Choose the Right Weapon

Your ability to adequately conceal your gun depends on the type of weapon that you choose. Handguns come in a variety of shapes and sizes. This means that you must invest some time and effort into finding the gun that matches your body frame.

You won't be able to maintain the element of surprise if you try to conceal a large handgun on a small frame. Try out several different makes and models until you find a weapon that is sized correctly and is comfortable for you to wield.

2. Choose Your Carry Location

There are quite a few areas of the body that can be used as an anchor point for a concealed weapon. Some of the more common carry locations include on the waistband of a pair of pants, in an ankle holster, and in a shoulder holster.

Practice with each of these types of holsters to determine which offers you the most comfortable access to your weapon. Once you have identified your preferred carry location, you can create daily outfits that will accommodate the placement of a holster in this location.

3. Maximize Your Safety

A license to carry a concealed weapon is supposed to help you feel safer and more confident. You must select clothing and accessories that help promote safety as well if you want to prevent a serious accident while carrying your concealed weapon.

Be sure that your holster offers protection against moisture so that your gun won't sustain any sweat damage. The holster should also cover the trigger completely to prevent an accidental discharge. Avoid clothing that is too tight so that you can draw your weapon easily.

Stay away from clothing items that feature a lot of loosely attached adornments. These adornments could become caught in your gun as you draw the weapon, compromising your ability to protect yourself in a dangerous situation.
